GUMUN’17 [18, 19, 20 August]

Submitted by on August 6, 2017 – 1:20 pmNo Comment

Some people are still not aware of what a ‘Model United Nations’ is. Here’s a proper description of what it is. Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically role-play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at Model UN conferences, which is usually organized by a Universities or Colleges. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate; the Best Delegate in each committee, however, receives a gavel. Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Not every MUN is known as a MUN. The college or the university which is organizing it gives it their own name. For example, if Greenwich University is conducting a Model UN, They will name it ‘GUMUN’. A lot of Model UN’s have been taking place in Pakistan since years now and the upcoming Model UN is organized by a famous and prestigious institution, Greenwich University, Karachi.

Young students participate and try to defend and counter the topics being exchanged in the sessions throughout. It’s really an amazing opportunity for the youth to participate and excel in debating.

The GUMUN’17 will take place on 18th August 2017 until 20th August 2017. It will be held at Greenwich University located in Dk-10, Street 38, Darakhshan, Phase VI, Karachi 75500. GUMUN is a domestic, non-profitable, non-political and independent organization. It was established in 2016 and has a support from ambassadors from more than 30 countries. The GEP (Global Exchange Programme) is its main product. GUMUN’17 is affiliated with Karachi Youth Model United Nations (KYMUN) which was a great success earlier this year and has connections all over the world. The main objectives of GUMUN are to develop and experience important social skills such as team work and group cooperation outside its premises, understand relations between countries, debate the issues to confront the world leaders and showcase a productive Greenwich University’s Model United Nations.

Other than the debating part, the most amazing part is the Social Events.

On Day 1, there’s a Qawwali Night to pay tribute to Junaid Jamshed, Amjad Sabri, Amir Zaki and Abdul Sattar Edhi. Following the Qawwali night.

On Day 2, there’s a water and rang party. The unique part about this party is it’s DJ, which is a surprise. Last but not the least.

There’s a formal dinner on day 3 with the award distributing ceremony.
